Mae West was an actress, writer, producer, and director of Broadway and film. She started at a young age in Vaudeville and created a persona of a female sex symbol which she embodied until her death in 1980. She was posthumously declared one of the greatest screen legends of American Film Industry in 1999 by the American Film Institute.
